How To Arrange Two Sofas In A Living Room

The living room is the heart of the home. That’s why it’s called the living room. We spend most of our time at home in it.

It’s the room where we live, laugh, love, and it deserves to be decorated in the best way.

After all, you have to be in there every day. You don’t want it to look like junk.

How To Arrange Two Sofas In A Living Room

The way furniture is arranged in a room is the biggest decider of whether that room passes the vibe check.

If your living room looks too dull or uninviting, then you can do something about it.

But if you’ve got an inviting space, then you should make sure that everything works together.

Arguably the largest and main piece of furniture in the living room is the sofa.

The sofa is the first thing you notice when you walk in. The sofa can make or break a room. And so, it’s important to get it right.

Here are some tips on how to arrange two sofas in a living room…

Feng Shui Arrangement

Feng shui is a traditional Chinese art that involves arranging objects in certain ways to create harmony and balance within a room.

This can help with energy flow, which will lead to better health and happiness.

There are several different types of feng shui arrangements. For example, one type is called “Water” feng shui.

There are three elements to feng shui arrangements: water, wood, and fire. Water represents emotions, while wood represents stability, and fire represents passion.

The key feng shui arrangement for sofas is as follows. Arrange sofas and any other kind of seating in a U shaped structure.

So if you have two sofas, you can also use an armchair or chair between them to create a U shape. By doing this the sofas have an element of intimacy.

They’re close together which allows for better conversation. This promotes social harmony and allows a steady flow of chi.

This arrangement works best in large spaces. It gives off a spacious vibe. The sofas are spaced apart from each other, allowing for plenty of air circulation.

The sofas should also be east or south facing. This is because the sun rises in an eastwardly direction.

This will allow your sofas to receive as much sunlight as possible. Obviously, the direction isn’t about the sofas receiving sunlight.

It’s more about you, or whoever is sitting on the sofas, being able to bask in those rays. Peaceful, no?

Some other key tips for this arrangement are to make sure the sofas are against a wall. This will invoke the feeling of safety.

Also, you and your guests won’t constantly be craning their necks to see what’s behind them because the only thing behind them will be a wall.

This method also maximizes space in limited areas.

L-Shaped Arrangement

L-Shaped Arrangement

Another option for arranging two sofas in a living room is an L-shaped arrangement. Again, this creates a sense of intimacy.

However, unlike the previous arrangement, this one doesn’t require a third object to complete the shape.

Instead, it uses the armrests of the sofas. To achieve this arrangement, simply place two opposite sides of the sofa perpendicular to one another, in an L shape.

This arrangement is great for smaller rooms. Because the sofas aren’t stacked up against each other, they don’t take over the entire room.

If you want to go all out, you could even put a coffee table in front of the sofas to create a larger L-shape.

This arrangement makes great use of any unused corners and creates a comfy set-up. If you have a TV, then this arrangement is good to set up around the unit.

This arrangement places the sofas out of the way, as they should be in an L against the walls, and it allows for some open space between the sofa.

As we mentioned above you can always place a coffee table in the empty space.

Opposite Arrangement

Two couches are the perfect number of couches for this arrangement. Simply place your sofas opposite each other, so they’re face to face.

And you can leave room for a table or rug between. This arrangement is great for socializing.

You’ll feel like you’re at home with friends when you sit down. The couch placement is comfortable, too.

It’s easy to get into conversations without having to crane your neck. You’re facing the person you’re talking to and giving them your undivided attention.

The downside of this arrangement is that it’s a little tricky to arrange around a media unit.

Either one of the sofa surfers suffers and can’t see the TV or both parties on the couches have to crane their necks sideways to see.

Which can get uncomfortable over time.

Same Direction Arrangement

This is when you arrange your sofas so that they’re all facing the same way.

This is a great option when you want to orient your sofas around the TV. Nobody has to crane their necks to see.

By arranging the couches in the same direction you create a chill living room vibe.

It takes off the pressure to socialize since you’re not facing each other, and you can just relax.

This is a useful arrangement for home theater rooms in particular.

The downside is that it makes socializing a little trickier since the couches aren’t facing each other.

However, it’s a great layout for a recreational room.

And since the couches just need to be facing the same direction, they don’t need to be connected in any way, it is an excellent arrangement for irregular spaces and open floor plans.

Final Thoughts

Arranging your sofas in a way that works best for your needs is important.

In fact, the way you arrange furniture is so important that there’s an entire ancient Chinese principle to follow (feng shui).

These sofas and that arrangement could be with you for years. But remember, these arrangements are just suggestions.

They’re not rules. Feel free to experiment and come up with something unique!

Only you can properly understand which arrangement will work best for your space.
