A sustainable alternative to traditional leather

Posted on April 19, 2015

Leather has retained much of its popularity throughout the decades, and not surprisingly so: it’s versatile as well as sturdy, and can add a luxurious touch to otherwise simple designs. But we wonder: can leather be sustainable?

We discovered an innovative, new material that hints at the possibility, and we immediately used it for our most recent design. OurAsphalt storage boxes are made from a specially produced material created from recycled leather remains, natural rubber as well as natural fats and tanning agents. As such, it consists of 95 % natural raw materials and does not contain any toxic substances.

We love recycled leather because, just like traditional leather, it is durable and long lasting, flexible, yet firm. By simply removing stains with a pencil eraser, it is also easy to maintain. Most notably, however, recycled leather is an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to traditional leather without the drawbacks.
